Good news for all who are looking forward to Cities: Horizons 2 and at the same time worried that the new version would not be poorer than the old one with a number of paid additional packages. The second part of the popular construction simulator will mainly include the change of time of day, seasons and natural disasters.
In addition, the seasons and weather system will much more carefully modeled and affect events in your city. But everything will depend on which map you build your city on. Temperate maps will have four different seasons (each with their own issues and challenges), while continental maps will have significant temperature swings and polar regions will have long winters and short summers.
You must build your cities with the climate in mind. If you build a city in a place where it is usually warm, residents will most often use parks and resorts. Conversely, when it rains frequently and it is cold, people will make more use of other commercial buildings such as restaurants and cinemas.
The weather will also affect services. In warm weather, people will turn on air conditionerswhich will significantly increase power consumption. In winter they will warm more, which is an additional load after power consumption. During the cold season, you also need to think about road maintenance and emergency services to keep the roads safe. They will also need to be repaired in warmer weather.
Then disasters come. It can be small in the form of traffic accidents that clog the roads, and large ones that affect your city more. Disasters have both short-term and long-term impacts on city services and the local economy. Fires, hurricanes and snowstorms can affect you.
Let’s get back to the basics. Disasters can be disabled, and by default, one day will equal one hour in real time, but there will be three levels of game speed to choose from. One day in the game is one cycle (month). When you go through three cycles, that is, three complete transitions between day and night, it will be one season (season). Once you’ve completed four seasons, the whole process starts all over again.
We remind you that maps in Cities: Skylines 2 will be huge and based on real locations. The maximum map size is 159 square kilometers and consists of 441 tiles, so you can build small isolated cities and decide to connect them later. The first had 33 tiles, and the total area was 33.18 km². Although fan modifications brought maps up to 299 km² in size.
Cities: Skylines 2 will be released on October 24 this year on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game will be available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC on the same day.
