Final Fantasy XVI did not live up to expectations Square Enix, in terms of the number of copies sold. Bloomberg noted that he addressed this fact during another conversation with investors. company president Takashi Kiryu. According to him, the lack of numbers is due to the slow transition of players to the PS5, which the game was released in June as a temporary exclusive.

Kiryu points out that Sony was unable to keep up with the demand for the console release due to the slowdown in production lines due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sony recently announced that it has sold over 40 million PlayStation 5 units and assured that the warehouses are now well stocked.

Square Enix had the highest hopes for Final Fantasy XVI this year. The game is supposed to help rectify last fiscal year’s disappointing financial results, which can be blamed on the failure of Forspoken or the lack of new DLC for Final Fantasy XIV.
