Events related to the planned acquisition Activision Blizzard has experienced rapid development in recent days. Microsoft won a U.S. federal court case that denied a regulatory grant request precaution temporary closure of the store. A similar (temporary) decision on appeal came on Friday Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In the US, there is currently nothing preventing the closure.
Microsoft remains to deal with the situation in the UK. Together with Competition Authority (CMA) announced the suspension of the appeal proceedings and the resumption of the proceedings. In turn, he proposed to restructure and limit the acquisition. It should be forfeiting UK streaming rights. However, the CMA has to reconsider Microsoft’s proposal, so it has moved the decision deadline from July 18 to August 29.
July 18 is one of the deadlines set by Microsoft and Activision Blizzard to close the deal. If the deal is terminated after this date, Microsoft will have to pay Activision Blizzard nearly $3 billion.
So far, the most likely option was to close the deal before July 18 without the sanction of the British authorities. This, of course, would mean limiting the activities of Activision Blizzard or Microsoft in the UK. According to Financial Times sources (via Tweak Town), the companies are leaning towards the postponement and are awaiting CMA comment.
Activision Blizzard could use the negotiation to raise its in-store price by up to ten percent, according to gaming expert Joost van Dreynen (TT), but that’s not a priority for him at the moment.
