Microsoft and UK authorities to re-negotiate purchase of Activision Blizzard

Shortly after winning in federal court in the United States, Microsoft agreed with the British Competition Authority (CMA) suspend the appeal process and reopen negotiations to approve the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This step must be authorized by the Court of Appeal (CAT), but it must be only a formality. The CMA is currently the latest body blocking the deal.

“After today’s decision of the US court, our attention again returns to the UK. While we do not agree with the CMA’s concerns, we are considering adjusting the deal to address the concerns in a way that is acceptable to the CMA,” he says. Brad Smithpresident of Microsoft.

Microsoft is expected to propose further commitments and measures in the cloud market, similar to the negotiations with the European authorities. It was the cloud that the CMA identified as an approval impediment, telling The Verge that the agency is “ready to consider any proposal from Microsoft to change the transaction based on the concerns expressed in the final report.”

Microsoft wants to close the deal by July 18, after which it will take on additional financial obligations to Activision Blizzard. Politicians are putting pressure on the British authorities, and the option is also being discussed that the acquisition will take place despite their displeasure.
