John Marston may soon return to the saddle to “visit” old friends from the broken gang. And this time around, PC owners could also play the first Red Dead Redemption. Rumors are mounting that a remaster of the thirteen-year-old western game is about to be remastered.
News broke last week that the game had unexpectedly received a new rating in South Korea. This may mean that a fresh release is on the way. In Korea, Red Dead Redemption has been rated for a long time. Also, the code says it’s for the console version – but that by itself doesn’t rule out a desktop version.
Gaming journalist Colin Moriarty also speculated on his podcast last weekend. He says he saw something that “confirms it’s true.” He even hinted that the announcement of the remaster could happen in the summer. However, Rockstar Studio has not yet commented on this.
The first part of Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since then, there have been no ports on PC or remasters for new generations of consoles. On the other hand, there has been increasing speculation, sometimes fueled by a simple desire, that Rockstar is working on a “new coat.” For example, last year Kotaku magazine wrote that work on a remaster was indeed underway, but due to the poor reception of GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, work on it was delayed. Many PlayStation 4 and 5 console owners also stopped when the title disappeared from the streaming offer after six years.
The game’s plot is based on Red Dead Redemption 2. We follow John Marston, who, after being blackmailed by American agents, sets out to find and capture the remaining members of the gang. If you’ve played the second part, which is a prequel, you probably have little idea who is still alive and who deserves revenge.
