It has been more than two and a half years since the current generation of consoles hit the market. Both their manufacturers, Sony and Microsoft, still released most of their games on the previous generation of devices. However, it was the latter company that announced that it was done with it.

“We have moved to the ninth generation”, said head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty in an interview with Axios magazine. At the same time, he added that none of the internal Microsoft teams are no longer working on the game for Xbox One, although, of course, support for already released titles will continue. At the same time, Booty says it’s still possible to play new Xbox One games through the cloud.

However, you can only play the new games natively on the Xbox Series X or S. Booty also commented on certain controversy surrounding the cheaper and less powerful Series S. Several development teams have already complained about the optimization issue for this platform, and in the future this may be quite a burden. “Is it more work? Definitely,” Booty says. On the other hand, he adds that developers will gradually be able to extract more performance from Series S, especially if this is their second project for this platform.
