Diablo 4 embodies the essence of what makes Diablo so great, taking the best elements of its predecessors and fusing them together to create an ever-changing and evolving chimera that we can’t wait to play for years to come.

Diablo IV represents a huge shift for the series towards a more open world that is just as appealing to new players as it is to returning veterans. Complexity combines with flexibility to create a game that is sure to keep you hooked for hundreds if not thousands of hours. Diablo IV is the game we’ve been waiting for, and it’s the Blizzard team getting back in shape.

Constant network requirements are hurting Diablo 4 and some classes are a little slow, but we can only gather minor complaints about what could easily be called the leader of the year and the best Blizzard game since Diablo 3.

Diablo IV is a true successor to the second game, bringing the series back to its dark gothic roots with a wild, operatic storyline and bold characters. The gameplay is as addictive as ever, and the expansive campaign is just the start of the vast amount of content you can experience. While Blizzard is still pushing the design of Diablo towards MMORPG-style multiplayer and co-op play, there’s no shortage of fun for solo players, though some bosses are best played with friends. With superb production, engaging characters, and combat, Diablo IV is about as good as it gets in the genre.

My impressions are overwhelmingly positive based on what I’ve experienced so far, from the map to the gameplay, new systems, and even the story that I didn’t expect. Blizzard seems to be really successful, and I will say that the only reason the game will be poorly received at launch is if technical issues kill people from the game. But when will things go? Yes, I think you will enjoy Diablo 4.

A true successor to the bad old RPGs, Diablo 4 oozes quality with its frantic combat and deep, engaging character development. It tells a complex, gritty story set in the dark, beautiful world of Sanctuary. What’s more, it provides a solid foundation for Diablo content for years to come.

Diablo 4 is certainly a tasty treat for fans of the series, but their appetite may not be fully satisfied. The repetitive nature of the spin-offs and their small rewards guide us to a story that also leaves a lot to be desired at first. Luckily, the foundation for further development is solid, combat is satisfying, and the size of the world offers plenty to do.

For fans of the Diablo 4 series, it’s a compelling argument that your next main game is a game. For everyone else, the specter of cosmetic microtransactions and live service elements hovers over this exquisite RPG formula.

For now, Diablo IV can’t avoid comparisons to past series to which it belongs, but luckily it’s a game that was created with a clear understanding of what made each installment either revered or cursed. It is a balanced approach to bringing together many elements from previous installments that worked in a system that serves as a new benchmark for action role-playing games. Combined with the series’ new scope for storytelling and a solid story base for potential new adventures, it’s easy to see Diablo IV as something I’ll be returning to regularly for a long time to come.

Diablo 4 is good, but it could be more. All in all, it’s a damn good installment in the series that will provide a lot of fun for the vast majority of gamers. Live service bugs and issues aside, this is a good package (even for players who prefer the old ways). The development team made sure to extract the best pieces of Diablo from hell, which were ennobled and enriched. But you’ll never come back from the dead without a grim trophy or two to remind you of your idle times, right?
