This isn’t the first time we’ve written about the canceled Days Gone sequel. Already in the past, we learned from various sources, led by the developers themselves, that plans for the second part have already been hatched for some time in the Bend studio, which has been behind the first part since 2019. Ultimately, however, Sony’s management was swayed by weaker sales and less-than-rave reviews. decided to close the project even before his actual development could fully take off.
Although the first part in terms of sales and evaluation couldn’t balance Leading PlayStation exclusives, led by brands such as God of War or Horizon, have undoubtedly found a number of fans who even asked to return to the development of the sequel in the form of a petition some time ago.
But none of that happened, and Bend itself was put in charge of another project that has yet to be revealed. The infamous fate of Days Gone 2 was remembered by game director Jeff Ross while watching the PlayStation Showcase event. The one through Twitter showed that if game development went through the approval process and proceeded as originally planned, we by this time the second Days Gone had been playable for a month. On this account, he added that if the studio approached the development with the mind, then work on the second part would have been completed in four years.
This statement, which attracted considerable attention on Twitter, Ross supplemented with several answers to questions from curious players. For example, he showed that more 90 developers, who worked on the first part, later left the studio. Some of them, including Jeff Ross himself, ended up at the Crystal Dynamics studio.
Ross also said that the main character of the second part should have been boozer – Deacon’s partner from the original game. While we probably won’t see a second Days Gone just like that, there has been talk for a long time about an upcoming film that could theoretically be based in part on the scenario of the canceled Days Gone 2.
I’m a little sick of these #PlayStationShowcase show because they just remind me that we could have released Days Gone 2 a month ago if we’d just stuck to our guns.
