The Witcher spin-off has a definite new structure

After the twists and turns that representatives of CD Projekt RED played with us at the end of March during the presentation of financial results, they finally told what is happening with the Sirus project from the world of The Witcher.

But don’t be too happy. CD Projekt RED again wasn’t very specific. He just confirmed that completed work on the definition of a new framework for the spin-off The Molasses Flood The Witcher. This means the project is back on track after the Polish firm was forced to write off PLN 33.4 million ($7.6 million) for 2022 and another PLN 9.5 million ($2.2 million) for the first two months of this year.

The write-off was justified by an assessment of the scale and commercial potential of the Sirius project in its original form, as well as ongoing work to define a new project structure. So, the definition of a new framework has been completed, but we no longer know what exactly it means and in what form the Witcher spin-off is now expected. So you have to come to terms with the fact that the game is under development.

The Sirius project was announced in October 2022. At the time it was said to be in pre-production and was described as an innovative take on the world of The Witcherwhich is not intended for fans of dark RPGs, but for a wider audience (for example, fans of the Netflix series The Witcher) = players who have not yet experienced a virtual adventure in the world of Andrzej Sapkowski.

Later there was talk that it should be a single and multiplayer adventure.

We do not currently know how many overrides have occurred. A complete restart of development is proposed, or only a change in a few important design things.

“We understand that restarting the entire project is not the best idea. But to stay competitive, we have to experiment and be bold, trying new ways, keeping everything under control and staying on track, especially with a new project for us in terms of design, which is being developed by a new studio in our family.” explained CFO Petr Nelyubovich in March.

“We must be ready to rethink our initial concepts, even if they are already in development. It was a difficult decision [odepsat náklady], but we believe that it was correct. We do not want to continue projects that do not suit us,” added CEO Adam Kiczynski, making an even bigger stew at the time.

Let’s look at other projects. Literally in a month, you will get acquainted in detail with the first and at the same time the last story addition of Cyberpunk 2077 (it is called Phantom Freedom). CD Projekt RED is also working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a new Witcher saga, a remake of the first Witcher, and a mysterious new brand called Project Hadar.
