Someone still complains that there are few games with Czech dubbing. And wondering if that helped! After a recent fan dub for Kingdom Come: Deliverance there is another game on the horizon for which we can count on a Czech dub. In addition, it employs such well-known names as Petr Rykhly or Marek Vasut. However, this is not the only thing in this turn-based strategy. XCOM different from its competitors.
While several new games in the genre have been released in recent years, none of them have used a World War II setting. It’s the closest thing to it Attention! Cthulhu Tactics from 2018, which, however, is conceived at a faster pace. The authors attribute their inspiration to the rather traditional XCOM and game silent stormwhich, however, is not so realistic. It is realism that the creators are trying to convey, and in the game you will find real weapons and characters that are in events that really took place on the territory of post-war Europe.
The developers are offering us two scenarios through limited time testing. The action of the first of them takes place in Czechoslovakia and differs from the second mainly in its complexity. Basically it’s about mastering the basic move options, which during the game will offer you about twenty minutes of tactics, which corresponds to seven moves. Right from the start, the resistance fighter will cheer you up Petr Bobulato whom he votes Petr Rykhly. His ads are repeated after a while, but most of them are more than good. Well, what to expect from a professional with Pauli from the legendary mafia behind him.
Even before the scenario starts, you have the opportunity to change the equipment of your crew. However, it should be added that this option is not very representative in testing, since you can only work with what is in the inventory of team members. That is, give one of the characters more grenades, and thus turn the rest of the team members. Alternatively, give one of the characters a machine gun and the other a rifle. I was also interested in the fact that each of the characters has a different nationality: we have a Czech, an American, a Pole, a Norwegian, a Frenchman and an Englishman. It seems to be beautiful, but on the other hand, it remains a mystery in what language such a team actually communicates with each other. What I didn’t really like was the quality of the characters, which don’t exactly match the photos on the map. Conversely, the appearance of Shimon Malinovsky resembles the bald BJ Blazhkovich.which is most welcome here, as he shoots the best of the entire crew.
Also about more realism, I should draw your attention to the fact that nothing like headless shooting works here. After several losses in my team, I began to pay more attention to tactics and statistics. The key here is the chance, and if it is low, then the action points are reset every turn. It is better to choose a more strategic place and start a counterattack only on the next turn.
Action points work inspired by the series XCOMwhere they are divided between movement and shooting. If you decide to throw a grenade, you will only have a few points left, so that you can at least hide behind an obstacle lying behind your character, but on the other hand, you can’t catch up with the map. In addition, when aiming, you have the opportunity to narrow the spread of sights by more points and thus increase the chance of a successful hit. Although the authors warn us that more features will be added, what I miss the most is the ability to climb to a higher point, whether it be an observation tower or the next floor of a house. Because of missing destruction there is no way to hide in the craters from artillery fire.
Once you get to the second scenario, i.e. Poland, you will no longer have the machine gun that was used every turn in the first scenario. Here instead of artillery is waiting for you, which can only be used once per mission using a radio transmitter. As expected, this is a significant helper in combat. With one button, you can deprive the enemy army of all or at least most of the health. It goes without saying how important it is to plan when to use it. They also gradually make their way to your team. more and more powerful units. Therefore, it is wiser to save the possibility of calling artillery until the last moment and thereby win. The game should be approached like a game of chess. First, you send pawns forward, set up and prepare for the first battle, and then think more carefully which ones to attack. Although it should be noted that this is an alpha version, I would like to point out weaker soundtrack after the bombs hit. At the same time, what annoyed me was the fact that you have to watch all the action when choosing and controlling a character. It should not be interrupted or watched while you prepare for the next steps.
Some may find this genre disappointing. After all, when you spend 20 minutes planning carefully and end up losing and having to start over… Let’s face it, it’s not for everyone. So be prepared that if you try the alpha test it could happen to you just like it did to me. not a good thingwhen you are in a situation where when you can’t go on, or pass the move to the opponent. Even though I used up all my action points and had no choice but to keep switching between characters, the game had to be restarted and started over. Which, as I pointed out at the beginning of the paragraph, can be discouraging.

However, it is important to mention this ongoing crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarterwithout which authors they can’t bring the game in the version they want. For basic version they need to raise 80 thousand euros, which in terms of our crowns is less than two million, at the time of writing my impressions, 30 thousand euros have already been collected. In other milestones, they promise more elaborate cut scenes and, for example, Operation Anthropoidthat is murder Reinhard Heydrich, which is historically very significant for the Czechoslovaks. To get the game, you need to donate at least 35 euros, but you can also qualify for higher rewards, which include, for example, game-themed clothing, 3D print plans for your team’s characters, a flash drive, a day spent with the developers in the studio, or the ability to bring your little thing into games as a playable character. If enough money can be raised, the developers would like to release the game later this year or early 2024.
We keep our fingers crossed for the creators of the project that the crowdfunding campaign will be successful and will cover the creation of the title and the tweaking of technical flaws, such as the lack of destruction of the environment and the storyline that was only hinted at. in the trailer and what we are especially interested in.
Although I’m not a big fan of turn-based strategies, Forgotten but Unbroken has its own charm and I was able to spend more than one evening with it. The game gave me a pleasant feeling of a real gamer who is trying to pass the level at any cost. If you want to make sure you really enjoy the game, you still have time to try the test version and maybe judge for yourself is it worth supporting our Slovak brothers and thus bring this unusual name into the world.
I can definitely recommend trying it and I firmly believe that the full version will pleasantly surprise us over time. I have no choice but to Good luck to the developers at Centurion Developments.
