The French company planned to close several branches in Europe and Canada, including offices in neighboring Poland, as part of a restructuring. The other day, this information is confirmed by Bloomberg and additional details are provided.

Ubisoft has reportedly decided to close its offices in Poland, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and unspecified offices in Canada.. It’s not about development research, it’s about teams responsible for marketing and distribution of games.

First of all, the unsatisfactory sales of physical versions and the general situation on the market are called the reason. Games in physical versions are sold less and less every year, players prefer digital versions and subscription services. This is probably why Ubisoft intends to launch its subscription on Xbox consoles, it has been running on PC for a long time and is featured less in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium.

Ubisoft is moving to three regional centers on the European continent, they will manage Northern Europe, Central Europe and Southern Europe. About 60 people are expected to lose their jobs.In total, Ubisoft employs more than 20,000 people.

After the reorganization, European and Canadian subsidiaries should be better prepared for the future in a rapidly growing industry and have more efficient and flexible approach.

Currently we do not know how the closure of the Polish branch of Ubisoft will affect the Czech and Slovak market. The distribution companies Playman/Comgad and Conquest, which distributed games on our market, cooperated with the Polish Ubisoft. They may have to enter into new contracts with some external agency that will deal with the Polish market.
