Ark: Survival Evolved’s “free” update isn’t free after all

Back in January, developer Wildcard announced that it was preparing to update Ark: Survival Evolved, which is now over six years old. As in many other cases, it was supposed to be a completely free improvement of the old game and, above all, its transfer to Unreal Engine 5 with everything that belongs to this game engine. However, the situation seems to have changed quickly, as the company said last week that after all, it will not be something that you can get for free, but a paid thing.

The studio commented:players will only be able to get it through the most valuable bundle known as the ARK Respawned Bundle,This is a pack containing a remaster called Ark: Survival Ascended as well as Ark 2 for a good 90 euros. It’s entirely possible that the community would have tried this move if it hadn’t also been announced that Ark: Survival Evolved’s servers would be closed after the paid remaster was released so the studio wouldn’t have to maintain them. Of course, this does not please the players at all.

They mostly disagree with the format in which this move is made, as most feel pressure to buy a new version of the game. The studio hasn’t commented on the reason for its policy change yet, but it’s understandable that this isn’t exactly the ideal move for Ark: Survival Evolved fans.
