The end of exclusives? Xbox believes open gaming is the future

Microsoft is changing its strategy: instead of exclusive content, it wants to unite players across different platforms.

According to Xbox President Sarah Bond, the era of console exclusives is gradually coming to an end. In an interview with Mashable, she said that Microsoft sees the future of gaming as being cross-platform and accessible. Games like Mining craft or Fortnite she says they make it clear that players love open communities, shared experiences and the ability to play together no matter what console they have – and what makes players happy also makes money. According to Bond, exclusivity is a relic that hinders not only players, but also development and innovation itself.

This new approach is also exemplified by the ROG Xbox Ally portable console, which symbolizes greater freedom and flexibility in gaming. And even if some fans fear that without Xbox exclusives it will lose its identity, Microsoft is sticking to its vision: the future belongs to open play, greater accessibility and collaboration across platforms – and that’s clearly good news for gamers.
