Square Enix Changes Leadership, Boss Josuke Makuda Quits

The official Square Enix document also points to the rapidly changing environment of the entertainment industry and adds that the aim of the new guidance will be deliver even better products than before to customers around the world.

The current president, Makuda, is a big proponent of blockchain, NFTs, and the Web 3.0 concept. However, it cannot be assumed that a change in top position will lead to a change in the company’s strategy. Kiryu joined Square Enix in 2020, having previously worked for a company that was looking for “new and disruptive technologies” including the aforementioned areas.

The announcement came shortly after the company decided merger of Luminous Productions with internal Square Enix teams. Thus, the team, which is currently operating independently, will return to the position it was in before 2018.
