PlayStation fights for Call of Duty, Sony is reluctant to agree to a ten-year contract that will keep this important brand on the “blue” console. Instead, he wants to stop Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for just under $69 billion.
As it now turns out, The PlayStation accounts for a significant portion of the Call of Duty publisher’s revenue, at least in terms of the console.. In 2022, Sony accounted for 13% of Activision Blizzard’s revenue. On the other hand, for Microsoft, the numbers are so small that they don’t even count. They are less than 10%. In 2020, Microsoft had 11%, Sony had 17%. In 2021, Microsoft is no longer a part and Sony will have 15%.
Against share of Apple and Google is growing. The iPhone and iPad owner has 20% last year, 17% in 2021 and 15% in 2020. Google is 18% last year, 17% a year earlier and then 14% in 2020.

Phil Spencer of Microsoft’s gaming division promises gamers and Sony that Call of Duty is coming to PlayStation for at least another 10 years. Players don’t have to worry these will be identical versions of the game as on all other devices and without exclusives for additional content. Sony has it until next year, so you could say the PlayStation has been the home of Call of Duty in recent years.
If Microsoft buys Activision Blizzard, that publisher’s games will be included in Game Pass, including Call of Duty on release day.
Lawyers agree that Microsoft’s contracts with Nintendo and Nvidia will be enough for the European Competition Authority to approve the acquisition.

PLAYSTATION PLAYERS LOVE ARROWS
Activision Blizzard has two main shooters: Call of Duty and Overwatch. A recent report from the UK Competition and Markets Authority revealed some interesting information about PlayStation users. 40% of the time played counts first and third person shooters.
This may be an important detail that individual competition authorities will also consider.
(FYI) Here’s an extensive thread about the CMA’s preliminary findings.
