Version declaration Baldur’s Gate 3 for the PlayStation 5, which happened during Thursday’s State of Play event was unexpected in many ways. After all, the RPG from the Larian studio is currently officially in development only for PC, where it is available in early access on Steam and GOG since 2020. AND all of a sudden we have a PS5 version that even comes out on the same day the PC version leaves Early Access.

But this situation unsurprisingly raised a simple question – what about the Xbox? Studio Larian has never hidden that it refuses to play games with exclusiveswhich studio head Sven Vincke emphasized this week as well after exposing local collaborations and the presence of an actor and stunt double. J.K. Simmons. Soon however, since Thursday’s announcement, there have been no official reports of plans to release an Xbox Series X|S version of Baldur’s Gate 3.so we could only guess why Larian chose the PlayStation 5. But now we know.
Community Manager Lariana Molly Carroll Finally, she ended the long hours of discussion and questions with a Reddit post, thanking the players and fans for their enthusiasm. First of all, she explained here how things are with Xbox. It turns out that the reason for this situation is indeed in the absence of an exclusive agreement, according to everything can be caused by technical problems when working together in split screen mode.
“Xbox players, we have seen your questions about whether and when Baldur’s Gate 3 can be expected on Xbox. We’ve been working on the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 for a while now, but we’ve run into some technical issues, especially with split-screen co-op. We’re still working on the Xbox version of BG3, but aren’t sure enough yet to announce it.”
After all, the Larian studio is also quite famous for this approach, i.e. tries not to announce anything prematurely so that fans do not worry needlessly. Also, the community manager on Reddit stressed that there is no exclusivity deal preventing the game from being released on Xbox, so you can expect that if the developers didn’t run into the technical issues mentioned above, we could play the finished version of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X|S on the same day as on PC and PS5.. “If or when we announce additional platforms, we want to make sure that each release meets our standards and expectations,” adds Molly Carroll.
We finally have something for PC gamers. Larian decided to raise the game’s hardware requirements ahead of the final release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC., taking into account the progress of development, that is, the increase in the quality of graphics and the complexity of the title during early access.
