Jake Solomon is now a well-known game designer, but he spent his entire career at Firaxis, where he worked his way up from lower positions to creative director of major projects. These include the reboot of the XCOM series as a game subtitled Enemy Unknown (and the expansion Enemy Within), the subsequent sequel and its expansion War of the Chosen, and the latest game Marvel’s Midnight Suns, which came out last December. After 23 years at the mostly strategy studio, he is leaving. Solomon is he announced on his Twitter.
“I am grateful to Sid (Meyer, editor’s note) above all for teaching me. If I’m ever even half as good as he is, I’ll be twice as good as I am today.” This is stated in Solomon’s statement.
“I am grateful to my former and current colleagues from Firaxis for making the dream a reality. True love and gratitude. Together we did some really good things.
I am grateful to 2K for believing in these dreams and for always supporting us with the time and resources needed to make them a reality.
And I’m very grateful to everyone who enjoyed XCOM and Marvel’s Midnight Suns. I never took this job for granted. Thank you for allowing me to do this work.
I enjoyed developing tactical turn-based games, but now it’s time for other, smarter people to take this direction forward.
My brain is now overflowing with new sleep. It’s time to visit him.
