The third season of Overwatch 2 brings the desired changes to monetization, introduces the first crossover, an absurd event, and brings back the Workshop.
Second season for Overwatch 2 is coming to an end starting today and the third season will start tomorrow. Since the release of the game in October last year, it will be about first season without a new hero. So, we’re moving closer to the previously announced plan, which would see new characters released through the season.
However, there isn’t much content for the next nine weeks. First of all, already traditionally, it will be new battle pass. This time with an East Asian theme, especially with the new mythical skin, this time Amaterasu for Kiriko.
CHANGES TO MONETIZATION
But most importantly, this is a new kind of awards. Both for players without Battle Pass, and with it. He returns in the third season Overwatch Credits. Up to 1,500 credits can be earned for free every season and another 500 as part of paid rewards. At the same time, all cosmetic items, including event items, will be added to the Gallery of Heroes and will be available for purchase at any time. At the same time, the price of legendary skins will be reduced from 1900 to 1500 credits; this means non-paying players will be able to purchase one legendary skin each season. It’s still not the best monetization, but we’re aiming for it.
In addition to the Battle Pass, the developers will also want to offer four additional skins through Special Challenges and other cosmetic items.
FIRST CROSSOVER
Even before the release of the game, the developers made it clear that they would like to include some crossovers with other brands in the game. Now the moment has come for the first such crossover. And in my opinion, this is not a completely bad implementation.
Overwatch 2 is related to the popular manga/anime One Punch Man.. There aren’t many details, other than a sample Doomfist skin reminiscent of Saitama, the protagonist of One Punch Man, and a promise that it won’t be a single skin or cosmetic item.
EVENTS
Like the second season, there will be several events in the third. From February 13 to February 28, the game will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a rather absurd event called lovers. And what will it be about? Let me use the official description:
“Loverwatch is a non-canon text-based dating sim where players choose between two possible partners: Mercy or Genjim. Players will be presented with dialogue options to interact with this hero, and will be assisted by Cupid (who looks suspiciously like Hanzo). Unlock the secret ending and you’ll be rewarded with a themed POTG Highlight! The event must be accessible through the browser at Loverwatch.gg.
At the same time (from 14.2. to 28.2.) a full-fledged in-game event appeared called Ultimate Valentine and it will be 4 vs 4 matches with Hanz and some awards.
From 7.3 to 6.4 already mentioned will work crossover with One Punch Man. And it will be the (penultimate) last event of the season. Pachimari is back 21.3 to 4.4. It should work based on Kill Confirmed, known from Call of Duty, where you have to collect tokens (or other equivalents) after fallen enemies in order to score points.
CHANGES IN THE BALANCE REPORT
For the vast majority of players, it will probably be less important what changes will occur in the game from a practical point of view. There are balance changes coming this time, and some of them are quite fundamental.
Specific details won’t be released until tomorrow, but from what we know right now, they are:
- Reducing the health of all tanks in non-role queuing mods
- Reduced the charge amount of your ultimate after changing character from 30% to 25%.
- Mercy got nerfed (good to know nothing has changed since Jeff Kaplan left)
- Ranmatra heavily weakened his ult; taking damage from enemies slows down the timer instead of stopping it completely
The competitive match system will also be undergoing changes, and more information can be found in the old blog post. In addition, by the fourth season, the developers will remove rank reset And downgrading.
Last but not least, the return of the Workshop, i.e. its tools for creating your own games and mods, has been confirmed. as well as a new control chart with the name of the Antarctic Peninsula..
