Developers from a Japanese studio PlatinumGames should have fun with Microsoft on the resumption of action RPG development Scaly, which was canceled six years ago. The information was given in the XboxEra podcast by journalist Nick Baker, citing two independent sources.
“It’s very, very early, but I’ve been told that PlatinumGames is working with Xbox again to bring back Scalebound,” he said. However, he does not have specific information about how the return should look like.
The game was developed from 2014 to the end of 2016, at the latest, on Unreal Engine 4 for Xbox One. Thus, the question arises whether it is possible to continue working on a project that at one time already had problems and did not correspond to the vision of Microsoft. In addition, Bayonetta 3 was supposed to use a lot of assets. There is also the possibility of a complete reboot.
The speculation is fixed by last year’s statements by the developers from PlatinumGames. “We took on [Scalebound] a lot of work, and Microsoft shouldn’t leave the game as it is, so we’d like to do something about it. Phil! Let’s do it together!” – the boss of the team did not hide that he wants to return to the brand. Hideki Kamiya.
Scalebound was supposed to be a fantasy RPG set in a large open world. The authors mainly addressed the cooperation between the human hero and his dragon companion. The protagonist, named Drew, was to be drawn into a fantasy world from the real world, with the player following him from a third-person perspective. On the other hand, the first-person camera was assigned to the dragon Tuban.
