Over the past few years, the Netflix video library has been populated by quite a few series based on video games, either of high quality or ones that fans would prefer to forget about. One of the upcoming novelties is an adaptation of the famous climbing and stabbing series Assassin’s Creed. But according to the latest information, Jeb Stewart, who was supposed to oversee it as showrunner, left the project.
Stewart is best known as a co-writer of the 1980s and 1990s films Deathtrap and The Fugitive. He also sponsored the spin-off Vikings: Valhalla which he produced and wrote for several episodes. Following this collaboration with Netflix, news broke in mid-2021 that he was also in charge of the upcoming Assassin’s Creed live stream.
In an interview with Collider, Stewart explained why he left the project. “I think it was influenced by the shift in decision-making (about the series) from Los Angeles to London. So, unfortunately, the London band inherited my vision instead of making it their own,” the writer explained.
Stewart suggests that his departure did not leave him bitter. It was called fair and the adaptation will turn out “great no matter when it comes out”. The release date of the series is not yet known. “I think the people at Ubisoft are amazing,” the director said in an interview.

There are quite a few series based on the gaming model available on Netflix. From the animated games Arcane, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Castlevania or more recently Dragon Age: Absolution. But a new series of The Witcher is also expected, in which Henry Cavill will play Geralt for the last time.
