Mobile AR project The Witcher: Monster Slayer from studio Spokko, owned by the Polish CD Projekt family, garnered quite a bit of attention when it was released last summer. What else can you expect from a game that can best be described as Pokemon Go in a witchy way. And those technical problems at the start, for example, due to which your character immediately jumped to the highest level, probably also took their toll. However, while the title stabilized relatively quickly and the creators continued to support it, the interest of many players seems to have faded relatively quickly. And now it’s obvious the lack of interest has gotten to the point where further traffic and sponsor support just isn’t worth it.

Developers from the Spokko studio in social networks and in messages within the game itself they announcedwhat On June 30/June 2023 they will shut down the game servers completely., so you won’t be able to play The Witcher: Monster Slayer even if you keep the app on your mobile phone. Already In addition, transactions using real money will be deactivated on January 31st. and from this day forward, new users will not be able to download The Witcher in Augmented Reality from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. However, you will still be able to use and spend the virtual currency earned during the game until the server is disconnected.

With all that in mind, it’s probably not surprising, right? After January 31, there will be no more new content. Monsters, quests, armor, time limited or daily quests and activities, none of these will be expanded. To date, however, no new game elements or technical improvements are foreseen, which, translated into human language, apparently means limiting technical support to an absolute minimum, as the developers encourage all players who are still experiencing the issue to contact support in the newly released FAQ section. They just need to be prepared for the fact that they may have to wait longer than usual for a response.

The termination of the game The Witcher: Monster Slayer has not only financial, but also organizational reasons. This is about the result of recent changes in the long-term product strategy of the CD Projekt group and efforts to make certain structural changes. Also related to this is the fact that the Spokko team will be assimilated into CD Projekt RED.. Thus, some of the employees will have the opportunity to join the development of various projects of the studio, which is currently preparing, for example, a new Witcher trilogy or a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, and some of the employees will be fired. However, the company must provide them with conditions for a smooth and easy change of work.

As a reminder, CD Projekt RED has also decided to end content support for The Witcher Card Game Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Luckily, Gwent’s ending is a bit sweeter, at least from the current perspective.. Starting in 2024, there will be no new content, but the game will still be in action, and it is assumed that the community will even be able to make decisions about card balance changes in the future. In addition, there will be some news, updates and events related to Gwent over the next year. Unfortunately, The Witcher: Monster Slayer wasn’t so lucky.
