For me, writing this WoW Dragonflight review has been a long task. Over the past few months, I’ve put aside some of the best PC games to delve into the mysterious world of Dragon Isles, traversing each area and completing each mission in an effort to bring in MMO’s newest antagonists, the Primalists. , down on my knees.
One of my first articles on PCGamesN was an alpha preview of Dragonflight WoW, in which I argued that this expansion was the new life World of Warcraft needed after some shoddy games. Caught up in the supplement itself, I’m going to double down on that statement. Dragonflight is exactly what WoW needs right now, and while I’ll update this review as I continue to explore the misty mountains of Waking Shore, Taldraazus, Azure Reach, and the Plains of On’aran, I’m already convinced that Dragonflight isn’t Battle for Sins. , Azeroth and Shadowlands.
A brave new world, an amazing new class
One of the issues I ran into when I first played Dragonflight was mastering the Drachthyr Evoker. This class is an incredible addition to the game, with tons of customization options, unique ability mechanics, and the ability to switch between human and Draktir forms. Although I was excited to try them out, I’d be lying if I said the excitement didn’t wear off right away because I absolutely aspirate in all things mid-range.
However, after it was released, I really fell in love with these flaky wheels. Draktir has several new mechanics, including casting charged spells and flying. Each of them is explained step by step by means of an easy to use UI and NPC instructions. Flying through misty circles in the sky reminded me of the old Harry Potter games where you had to fly through each hoop during Quidditch practice, and filled me with a nostalgic joy that made me fall even more in love with the class.
Forbidden Reach, Draktir’s new starting area, features spectacular combat, stunning scenery, and a story to die for. Draktir’s new takeoff ability brings a whole new take on the magnificent sights of Reach, a game changer when it comes to exploration. Après avoir traversé de nombreuses zones de départ, c’est l’une des meilleures à ce jour – et il n’y a no comparaison avec le fait de passer des heures littérales à essayer de traverser le malheur et l’obscurité de Tirisfal Glades in particular.
Arriving in Orgrimmar, yes I’m still a post Shadowlands Horde player, chase me down, the locals greet me with amused confusion. One NPC asks if my tail will grow back if I cut it off, and another asks if he can borrow one of my scales, of course for scientific purposes. Playing as a Draktyr makes you feel special, almost real, and that’s exactly what I expected running around as a humanoid dragon.
This is further enhanced by the Take Off ability, which allows you to reload and take to the skies without a mount, giving you a bird’s eye view of the vast expanse of the Dragon Isles. You can use it in zones old and new, adding a new look to Pandaria and Kalimdor and updating the zones we know and love. Rise is one of my favorite things about Draktirs, and for me, that’s what makes them so. a little more special.
When I’m not high, I ride a dragon. While I was initially skeptical of Blizzard’s claim that this would be a major new feature, I’m very glad I was wrong. As much as I enjoy running through various cloud rings to reach various outposts in the sky, I prefer to roam the sky freely without a care in the world.
The in-game tutorial makes this feature easy to understand for experienced and new players alike, and the dialogue associated with your first flights also generates some odd laughs (those How to Train Your Dragon references are just adorable). All this really does Feel it’s like you’re creating memories as a character and as a player.
And as if that were not enough, you can also customize your mount. This is the first World of Warcraft game and I really can’t think of a game that allows you that much customization. I decked out my beast with swirling bull horns and fin-like spikes (I love murlocs) and made it a point to collect all the different looks for my proto-dragon.
Sure, it’s a small feature, but it really makes you feel like you’re influencing the game. You’re not just an unwitting participant in the story sitting around doing nothing; You truly shape the Dragon Isles and help restore them to their former glory. Overall, there’s just a general sense of excitement, something that has been lacking in later expansions.
Another thing that both Battle For Azeroth and Shadowlands lacked was a meaningful and interesting story. Although I am only at the beginning of my journey, I am already intrigued by what is happening in the Dragon Isles. After the death of one of my favorite characters, no spoilers, don’t worry, I snuck into Alexstrasza’s inner sanctum and she’s absolutely amazing (as is she, but that’s a side note). An earthquake has just struck the entire Wakestring, and our adventurers set off to find out what these Old Ones have been up to. Back pain prepared now. Check back here soon for a fuller verdict on the expansion as I progress through the story and experiment with more new features.
