Arma 3 is undoubtedly one of the brightest projects of Bohemia Interactive. This is a work focused on a realistic interpretation of military clashes. At the beginning of the year, thanks to his authority, fans managed to create a gameplay video so realistic that it could be presented to the world as real footage of the conflict in Ukraine. It was seen by over a hundred thousand people and shared endlessly. However, it was subsequently withdrawn precisely because it was fake news. While the fact that Arma 3 looks so realistic that it can be released as gameplay videos like actual footage may be some sort of homage to Bohemia Interactive, the creators themselves aren’t exactly happy about it.
1/ In response to the unfolding military conflict in Ukraine, we have established a Special Operations Center to respond in real time. It employs specialists (including native speakers), so we can closely monitor the situation and act as quickly as possible.

Bohemia Interactive PR manager Pawel Krzyska describes the situation as follows:While it’s flattering that Arma 3 mimics contemporary military conflicts so realistically, we’re certainly not happy that this could be mistaken for actual combat footage and used as military propaganda. This has happened in the past, but currently this content has gained popularity due to the current conflict in Ukraine.”
In addition, the company does not seem to be very good at fighting fake videos. To some extent, the fight against them can be described as a battle with windmills, about which Krzyszka puts it this way:We have tried to combat such content by tagging these videos with the platform providers, but this is very inefficient. For every video uploaded, 10 more are uploaded every day. We have found that the best way to counter this is to actively work with leading media and fact-checking organizations that have greater reach and capacity to effectively combat the spread of fake news.”
Videos from Arma 3 are not only used to represent the war in Ukraine. According to Krzyzhek, they were used, for example, by Indian television in an attempt to imagine through them that Pakistan bombed Afghanistan, after which footage from the Bohemia Interactive game turned out. According to the creators blog, real videos differ from gaming videos in that they are available in very low resolution, the camera shakes openly, often occur at night, explosions look unrealistic, and the equipment available also does not match what soldiers of individual armies wear.
The developers themselves ask the community to be responsible and avoid the creation and possible distribution of such videos. They are also happy that some fans are actively involved in solving this problem, which, of course, pleases the authors.
