space shooter Everspace 2 received the last major update planned for the early access phase. Patch 0.10.30110 is available for all players on Steam and GOG. Coming soon to the Microsoft Store.
The update has a name ancient rifts and includes some end-game content, the debut of long-awaited legendary items, new missions, a major leveling tweak based on community feedback, and more.
Ancient Rifts is an update that delivers on the promise of a 2019 Kickstarter campaign that saw nearly 8,000 supporters unlock important end-game content for Everspace 2. Like the original Everspace game, players could increase the difficulty of each round and choose obstacles between sectors in Hardcore mode, they can now increase the difficulty of the Madness before opening the rift and choose a portal with various modifiers leading to the next stage to determine their individual task. Of course, more risk will bring greater rewards, such as a higher drop rate for legendary items and better loot overall.
The team wants the players to be inside complex actions in the endgame in a fast-paced space shooter, they charged into battle with an optimized formation and wreaked havoc on their enemies instead of camping behind an asteroid and taking out one target after another from a safe distance. Therefore, in order not to be thrown out of the rift, pilots must maintain their Resolve in the Ancient Rifts by quickly defeating opponents, as well as keeping their hull integrity above zero.
While indie studio Rockfish Games is far from done with this first implementation, daring pilots can tackle more interesting content in the Ancient Rifts update, including reworked racing eventsnew side missions in the Union and the Haight Nebula, new missions, new distress signals, new puzzles and visual improvements.

Ships are key to the Everspace 2 experience, as well as the story or player’s self-expression, so of course Rockfish added a few new elements to the game. The Bomber can now become a Titan and the Gunship can now become a Dominator thanks to a new set of wings.. There are also two new Outlaw units: Raider and Tormentor. Adding variety to the gameplay is a new device called the Forward Shield Generator, which offers pilots three modes of operation.
Avenger reflects projectiles back at attackers, All Day converts blocked damage into weapon energy, and To Your Left provides a smaller shield that automatically rotates towards the nearest enemy facing the player.
The Rockfish team spotted pilots who were unhappy with the level scaling, especially at the beginning of the game. It has been a challenge to strike a balance between those who love challenges and those who want to feel strong all the time, but the new system delivers just that. There are several layers to the operation of the new system, but instead of enemies constantly leveling up players within a given level range for each star system, their progress will be tied to world progress. Whether it’s the player’s level, plot highlights, or entering a new system, players will be able to rise above their enemies to some extent. When certain conditions are met, the levels of previous playable areas will increase, which will be reflected in the game history.
Everspace 2 is currently available in Early Access on Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store, and is scheduled to release on Xbox and PlayStation after the full game launches in early 2023. Fully optimized version for Steam Deck.
