Music is becoming more and more important to games, and developers use it to create atmosphere, and fans play their favorite tracks over and over again. After years of lobbying from game studios video games received a separate category at the Grammy Music Awardswhere the best soundtrack for a video game and other interactive media will be awarded.
But the nomination will surprise many. The award can be received by:
- Aliens: Fireteam Elite (Austin Wintory)
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok (to Stephanie Economy)
- Call of Duty: Vanguard (Bear McCreary)
- Guardians of the Marvel Galaxy (Richard Jacque)
- old world (Christopher Tin)
The awards will be presented on 02/05/2023 in Los Angeles.
Video game music has been eligible for Grammy Award nomination since 1999. In 2011, Christopher Tino’s song “Baba Yetu” for Sid Meier’s Civilization IV won the award for best instrumental arrangement, and in 2012, the soundtrack to the non-traditional adventure game Journey received a nomination.
