The situation around the creators of Disco Elysium is starting to heat up. What began last month with studio co-founder Martin Luigi’s relatively innocent report of firing three ZA/UM studio members has now turned into a real lawsuit as one of the three members decided to sue their original employer for fraud. .

Kurwitz himself, along with Alexander Rostov, who was also fired, formulated the accusations of CEO Ilmar Kompus and executive producer Tõnis Haavel as follows: “Now we have learned that Tütreke OÜ was supposed to gain control of Zaum Studio OÜ through fraud. We believe that the money that Tütreke OÜ used to buy a controlling stake was illegally withdrawn from Zaum Studio OÜ itself, money that belonged to the studio and all shareholders, but was used in the interests of one. The money that was supposed to go to the filming of the sequel.”

Of course, the company did not like his outburst, and in response to his actions, he was fired for professional misconduct, in which he was even allegedly involved in gender discrimination and verbal attacks on his colleagues. There is even an accusation of trying to illegally sell the company’s intellectual property. ZA/UM commented on the GamesIndustry.biz transition: “The rumor that our decision to terminate contracts with these individuals was made for financial gain is completely unfounded and is in no way true. It was a decision that had to be made for the good of the team.”

The conflict between the two sides openly flared up at the moment when the Estonian newspaper Eesti Ekspress published a report in which it was reported that Haavel was supposed to secretly work for the studio’s money. He, of course, denied this, after which he attacked Kurvitz, starting a decent cannonade. Judgment is now an almost inevitable affair, which is sure to involve more dirty laundry. However, who is right, we will know only after it ends. Now the situation is quite clear. We will keep you updated on further developments.
