Crowfall became famous mainly for its successful Kickstarter campaign, where this MMORPG managed to raise $1.7 million. Six years of development followed, after which the game was officially released in July 2021. However, less than a year after his release, it looks like his journey is over, or at least will be temporarily put on hold. The creators present their move in a press release as follows: “One of the biggest challenges was the sheer amount of developer effort required to create new campaigns and run the game on a daily basis. In order to refocus our efforts away from live games and towards development, we have decided to shut down the Crowfall online service for a while.”
And the fact that Crowfall does not end, but only temporarily disables the servers, is the most interesting thing in the whole situation, because in most cases the creators simply say that the journey is over and thank everyone. However, in this case, they choose a different tactic, which may be due to the fact that the game was not created in a completely normal way, but was financed. After November 22, the servers will be turned off. The next weeks and months they want to exploit like this “We are using this time to chart the future of the game. We haven’t decided what it will look like yet, but we’re investing in and reimagining every part of the game, from core technology and tools to graphics, design, and gameplay. Nothing is out of the game.”
However, it’s really unlikely that Crowfall will return to the scene. Even the ability to download the game is disabled, so if you really want to play it, you’re out of luck. There are no special hopes for a return, but it is possible that the creators will surprise and, following the example of other projects, will be able to start their own again.
