Sony has published financial results for the second quarter of the current financial year. We learned from published data a series of information and numberswhich are of primary interest to us in connection with the PlayStation 5 console and related services.

  • Between July and September, 3.3 million PS5 units were shipped to stores. Since the launch of the console, Sony has managed to bring to market a total of 25 million units of this console.
  • The total number of PS5 consoles sold in the first half of the current fiscal year is 5.7 million.
  • In the second quarter, Sony produced a total of 6.5 million PS5s.
  • Sony has set a goal of selling a total of 18 million PS5s in the current fiscal year ending March 2023.
  • Sony’s Game & Network Services division reported a 12 percent increase in second-quarter revenue (total $4.88 billion).
  • Profits, on the other hand, fell 49% to just $284.6 million. Sony attributed the drop in profits primarily to rising development costs for individual games and expensive acquisitions led by Bungie.
  • Sony’s total profit rose 8% year on year. The decrease in profits in the gaming area was offset by an increase in profits in the music division.
  • Digital versions accounted for 63% of game sales last quarter.
  • The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers fell to 45.4 million players in the second quarter. In the previous quarter, 47.3 million people signed up for the service. Compared to last year, the number of subscribers decreased by 1.8 million.
  • The total number of PlayStation Network users has reached 102 million. This is two million less than last year.
  • In the next fiscal year, which runs from April to March 2023, Sony wants to ship a total of 23 million units of the PlayStation 5 console.

From the information mentioned above, this is definitely amazing annual decline in PlayStation Plus subscribersa slight decline in the number of PlayStation Network users and a significant drop in the profits of the gaming division.
