Week 13 HW News Review

The Arc Alchemist has officially gone on sale, but so far there have only been two laptop models.

At the end of March, it finally happened, Intel introduced and released Arc video cards, respectively, of their first generation called Alchemist. But, as we wrote earlier, he has a few clues. There were only cards for laptops (desktops will not be released until the second quarter) and, even worse, so far only two models of the planned five have been released.

In particular, these are the lowest, then Ark A350M as well as A370M. The younger model will offer 6 Xe cores, 6 RT blocks and a frequency of 1150 MHz at a consumption of 25 to 35 watts. The more powerful card has 8 Xe cores and RT blocks, a clock speed of 1550MHz, and a TDP of 35 to 50W. Both models have 4 GB of video memory with a 64-bit bus.

Even more powerful A550M, A730M and A770M cards with up to 32 Xe cores are planned. But we’ll have to wait a bit for these models, according to Intel, they will hit the market in early summer.

AMD is reportedly preparing the Radeon RX 6300

For a while, we will move on to competing with AMD, which is also planning new graphics, but this time it will be about the desktop model. While the company has several low-end cards, including the Radeon RX 6400, that’s probably not enough. According to Videocardz magazine, the new graphics API update says it has added support for the Radeon RX 6500, 6400, and 6300. However, there is no 6300 model yet.

AMD is probably just preparing it for the OEM market like other lower end cards. Videocardz suggests that there may be a significant reduction not only in stream processors, but also in video memory to 2 GB. So the question is whether such a card will find application, because in this segment it is often more profitable to reach for a processor with an integrated graphics chip.

XeSS won’t show up until summer

Finally, back to Intel. In addition to graphics, he also revealed new information about his upcoming XeSS upscaling technology that will compete with Nvidia’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR. Unfortunately, the release did not take place and we learned the rather sad news that XeSS will not appear until the beginning of summer, like other graphic models for laptops and quite possibly the first cards for desktops.

In addition, we have also received announcements of other games that will support XeSS. Intel boasts Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Grid Legends, GhostWire: Tokyo, Death Stranding, Bloodhunt, Chorus, Arcadegeddon, Chivalry 2, Hitman 3, Enlisted, Super People, The Settlers, Dolmen or Anvil.
