Matcho alpha experience

Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Mafia, Beat Saber, Arma. These are titles that almost everyone who is interested in video games has heard of. All of the above is created in our meadows and groves and has managed to please millions of fans around the world. Domestic creations are certainly smaller compared to foreign ones, but we often make better quality games. These are mainly indie games, such as the creations of Amanita Design. But here and there some gigantic projects appear. Overall, I feel like our creators still live up to the “fun first” motto, which I fully approve of. When the alpha version of the Matcho game, which FiolaSoft Studio is working on, got to our editors, we immediately started testing it.

Original and fun

It would be a mistake to say that Matcho is just a shooter. The creators bring a very interesting and original concept of Match-3 FPS, which combines first-person shooting with logical thinking and emphasizes fast reactions. I wish I was twenty again and paid more attention at school. It may sound strange on paper, but it’s a pure form of gaming pleasure that I haven’t experienced in a long time. Noticeable use of platform elements also plays a big role. All this is seasoned with a plot and humorous situations. As a result, Matcho is an adventure game that can torture your brain in a fun way.

Matcho combines shooting with logical thinking.

Matcho’s plot revolves around an invasion by an alien civilization. The creators promise that it will be a non-linear story, full of humor and multiple endings. The alpha version contained only one story mission, and it was taken out of context, so you can’t really guess what it’s really about. In addition to the story mission, the Arena Trials game mode is also available, in which you try to complete challenges and get the highest possible score. What I had the opportunity to play and see during the test had an extremely positive effect on me, and I had a good time. In a firefight, you try to tag three or more enemies of the same color that explode when connected. If you are very fast, you can link your attacks into combos, but be careful! Don’t expect classic weapons or enemies. You will shoot thanks to the abilities that the main character acquired along with the disease that struck him. Thus, only the energy sent from his palms is enough for him to destroy the colored robots. The battles take place at a frantic pace and you will use a lot, such as wall running, double jumping, or an energy hook. You will have to be smart with the bosses, and sometimes there are passages with sneaking. Matcho will also bring multiplayer in the form of PVP.

Virtual Reality PhD

Matcho runs on Unreal Engine 5 and while the game is still in alpha, I haven’t had a few more technical issues. Yes, the game still has a lot of work to do, but in my opinion, the creators have gone in the right direction. The full version is due out on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S within the next year. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any information that Matcho is being developed for VR. The game directly encourages this, and it will certainly take on a completely different dimension. All characters are voiced, and the English dub is a pleasure to listen to. Upon release, Matcho will also include Czech dubbing, which can enhance the already solid humorous elements for domestic players.

The game style directly encourages virtual reality.

The gaming environment is very pleasant. Jungles, temples and mountains look great in contrast to alien technology, and the sounds of gunfire are pleasing to the ear. Unreal Engine 5 is known for good optimization, and on a Ryzen 5600x, RTX 3070Ti, and 16GB of RAM, the game ran more than decently for me, which is quite rare for alpha versions. The style is perfect for Matcho and may appeal to smaller players who are just starting out. Also, adding to this is the fact that it is a completely non-violent title that will be entirely in Czech.

Good feeling

Logic adventure games are one of my first introductions to video games. I remember wandering around Myst, Messenger of Death, or the first Syberia for hours as a little boy. It was because my parents didn’t let me play violent games, but I still secretly played Duke Nukem 3D, Wolfenstein and Doom. Matcho combines both genres, which makes it very attractive to me. Shoot, run, jump and solve logic puzzles? Here with this! I am even more pleased that it is created here. After each correctly solved task, there is a feeling of satisfaction and I was completely absorbed in the processing of sounds and music. I wish the contributors at FiolaSoft Studios a successful rest of the development and it’s very clear that next year I’ll be playing the full version. At the end of the day, games are all about entertainment, and that’s what Alpha Testo definitely brought to me. I’m looking forward to it.

Matcho will release in 2023 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
