Microsoft Representatives patience running outcriticizes the UK competition regulator’s (CMA) decision to investigate the alleged acquisition of Activision Blizzard in greater detail.
The CMA is concerned that the deal could hurt PlayStation and other game subscription services if Microsoft had Activision Blizzard content exclusively for its platforms. He also worries that Microsoft could use Activision Blizzard’s brands to compete in game streaming with the likes of Nvidia and Amazon. We wrote more here.
Microsoft dismissed the CMA’s concerns as misplaced and accused the authorities of filing complaints with Sony without the proper level of scrutiny.. In Microsoft’s opinion, these unsubstantiated theories of harm do not constitute a sufficient basis for a second phase of the acquisition investigation.

Microsoft cites Sony’s leadership in the console market and claims that PlayStation reaches 150 million installs compared to 63.7 million for Xbox. The American company also points to Sony’s actions, including raise the price of the console without fear of losing market share. It also highlights the recent acquisitions of Bungie and Haven.
This number is interesting. According to Microsoft, there were over 280 original and third-party exclusive games on PlayStation in 2021, almost five times more than on Xbox.
Microsoft concludes by stating that Sony greatly exaggerates the importance of Call of Duty.
“While Sony may not welcome stronger competition, it is able to adapt and compete with it. Players will ultimately benefit from increased competition and choice.” adds Microsoft saying that wanted to launch a Game Pass subscription on PlayStation consoles, but Sony did not want to.
Microsoft says Sony he protects his income from the sale of newly released gamesrather than offering players access to them through their own PlayStation Plus subscription.
Brazil recently approved the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. Local authorities said they made a decision in the interests of the customer.
