Witchfire from the makers of Bulletstorm delayed

Polish studio The Astronauts has announced that the upcoming Witchfire event will not be released this year. The game was rescheduled for early 2023. According to them, the developers decided to change some game mechanics. Probably the most significant change concerns the environment, where there should be a transition from the originally planned arenas to a more open world.

In a post on the studio’s official website, creative director Adrian Chmielartz describes that during development they realized they wanted players to offer more freedom in their progress. Chmielartz himself admits that the initial concept of the arenas felt a little outdated and limited the potential of the game. But the authors add in the same breath that a full-fledged open world should not be expected. After all, a new form of the game itself they call it a semi-open world.

witch fire first will be released in early access Exclusive to the Epic Games Store. The title will move to other platforms later.

For clarification, let’s add that behind the game former founders of the People Can Fly studio are standing, who previously worked on the Bulletstorm or Painkiller series. As part of The Astronauts studio in 2014, the authors released the story issue “The Disappearance of Ethan Carter”.
