All age groups found something for themselves at this year’s events at the PVA EXPO in Prague. In one zone, you could find a room with children’s tools under the auspices of For Babies, in another, toys for the big ones called For Toys, and the biggest ones had fun in For Games. And there is definitely something to be happy about. But this year, it left a bitter aftertaste. This is a year that is held without covid restrictions. And compared to the past, he is great, pumped up and funny. If we compare this with the time before covid, we find that this is not exactly a hit parade.
A holiday for all Czech players. Here’s how to describe the (almost) annual For Games event. A fair that all game lovers, cosplay lovers and all ages are looking forward to. The fair was held from Thursday (October 6) to Sunday (October 9). The event offered something for everyone. Or maybe it was wrong. When you entered hall 1, you were slapped in the face by the sales stalls. While food and drinks were served on the right, and a self-defense demonstration on the left, the main thing is that there is a huge corridor in front of you.
The first interesting moment was shooting. Your task was to score the most points with a pistol. Who succeeded, got a good feeling. The first ChataRPG store specializing in 3D printing could be found in the neighborhood. By far, the largest crowd was at the melee stand, where you could touch all kinds of weapons, including Thor’s ax or a 40-kilogram sword from Final Fantasy. Right next to it was the stand of the online store Originalálky.cz, and next to them was a large stand of Bigshock.
The Bigshock hostesses were handing out Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 style energy drinks to everyone. There was even a competition where only children took part and were awarded one of the drinks. To make matters worse, the company had a mobile yellow machine there with equipment that played remixes of famous songs. Around 12:30 Piotr “Xnapy” Jirak arrived and started the meeting. Every fan of this face of the Czech League of Legends commentary scene could chat or come for an autograph. What was a bit of a downside was that Piotr only had white spirit and signed said drinks from Bigshock, causing the signature to be removed almost immediately.
Since it was basically a game fair, there was no shortage of bloated computers. Lenovo made one giant booth that had 5 laptops facing each other on each side with interesting components. The most interesting was the driving simulator, which anyone could try. On the right side of the hall was a Nintendo booth where you could try Splatoon 3 and several consoles. In front of Nintendo, the Game Coupons store had a booth that offered games for the PlayStation and Beat Saber for virtual reality.
At the end of the hall there was a shop for all anime lovers where you could buy figurines and manga. Next to it, you could find the game To the Dragon Cave from Czech developers, designed for the visually impaired. One of the lecturers was a blind player. In the second part of the exhibition, the event was more focused on esports, as this is where you ran into the stands of Cryptova and Sinners next to each other. In addition, free pizza slices were handed out on the spot. It should be noted that the longest line was formed there. But the biggest attraction was the big screens showing the Sazko eLEAGUE Counter-Strike finals. As a result, the ENTERPRISE team won and took home a prize fund of half a million kroons.
In addition to the players, you could meet a bunch of cosplayers. They had free admission, so almost everyone got their money. Anime fans could see the cosplay of Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul, for Marvel there was a two-meter Thor, and for the players characters from World of Warcraft, the representation of LoLkař in the form of Viego or Sorak, the Ghost from Call of Duty and many others.
This year, For Games was my first. It was such a big deal for me. But after talking with colleagues from different newsrooms and streamers, I found out that this year’s edition is normal. Comparing with the previous year. Compared to previous years, a lot was missing and the fair was so empty. Asus, Alza, PlayStation and Xbox were absent. Something right was missing. Something amazing.
Fans of streamers are in for a surprise. DeeThane, Xnapy, Robdiesalot (who is said to be still dying), Czechcloud and more appeared at the event. Well, until next year, video game lovers! Let it be even better than the previous one.
