English independent studio ZA/UM made a splash three years ago with its unexpected but deservedly praised RPG hit Disco Elysium. Last year, the game was also released in a Final Cut version, which added full dubbing for all characters, among other things.

Both versions were (and still are) very popular, and a few months ago it turned out that the ZA/UM studio would probably work. in another sci-fi universe. However, for Disco Elysium fans, the question still arose whether we would see a sequel, and their optimism was reinforced by information that the game will have a serial adaptation.

So everything seemed perfectly fine, and the next piece of art was only a matter of time. Maybe it’s still but new information does unsightly damage to this idea. Martin Luiga published a post on the Medium website in which announces the dissolution of the cultural association ZA/UM. He considers it a separate part of the development team as such, to which he only very vaguely expresses himself in those crushing words.

I, Martin Luiga, founding member and secretary of the cultural association ZA/UM and at the same time gathering most of the core team, hereby dissolve the cultural association ZA/UM (not to be confused with the ZA/UM company). what I would like to point out is that Kurvits, Hindpere and Rostov have not worked in it since the end of last year, and their departure from the company was forced. Which might sound like bad news to adoring fans waiting for the sequel to Disco Elysium)“.

Robert Kurvitz worked on the game as the main writer and designer, and also helped with the script Helen Hindpere as well as Alexander Rostov. All three have confirmed their departure from the studio.

None of the sources gave the exact reason for leaving, but it is likely that this is the same thing that caused the dissolution of the said cultural association of the studio. Martin Luiga adds in his speech that “dthe reason for abolishing a cultural organization is that it no longer represents the ethos on which it was founded.

After that, he was a little more outspoken in the comments, where he blamed investors for all this, who he mentioned had a tendency to manipulate the people on the team and steal from themselves because that’s all they can do. It was assumed that one of these investors was human, which he was. Estonia’s first person convicted of investment fraud.

So, what is the current situation in the team, it is difficult to determine. But if we ever get a second Disco Elysium, other people will be working on it, and if they merge and form another team together, they won’t be able to work on Disco Elysium. However, we hope that everything ends well in the end.
