Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Dead Silence beta perk is really strong

Modern Warfare 2’s beta buffs and updates have proven to be loved and despised by Call of Duty fans, on the one hand offering an update and rebalancing of Infinity Ward and Activision FPS, and on the other introducing strange and seemingly unfair changes in a system. that may never have been broken. But there is one MW2 field update in particular, Dead Silence, which seems to be the most controversial given that it does the exact opposite of what its name suggests.

Footsteps were a recurring issue (excuse the pun) in the Modern Warfare 2 beta, especially when combined with the minimap changes. In the past, enemy combatants using non-suppressed weapons were marked on the map with red dots when they were close, allowing you to track them down and attempt to kill them. In Modern Warfare 2, that’s no longer the case, meaning your only real way to locate enemies by sound is to listen for their approaching footsteps. However, this can be undone if the player uses the Dead Silence field upgrade, which muffles their footsteps and theoretically makes them a silent killer. However, Dead Silence itself seems to act as a gift to nearby opponents, as noted by Charlie Intel.

Although the upgrade is aptly named in terms of silencing your footsteps, when you actually activate it, it gives off a loud and very noticeable buzz and ping, meaning if you were, say, a few pieces away from an enemy sniper. , and wanted to get out on the field so you could sneak up on him, chances are your opponent will hear Dead Silence come in and be able to move into a position to ambush you even though your footsteps are muffled.

“Total silence will trigger the loudest beep in the game and they’ll know you’re coming,” one player wrote on Reddit. “Remember that you now have to go through an animation to activate Dead Silence, which lasts two seconds,” adds another. “I feel like they missed the opportunity to make their operator yell ‘Using Dead Silence, I’m coming!’” said a third. Infinity Ward previously said it’s monitoring feedback on the Modern Warfare 2 beta, which ends on September 26, so it’s possible Dead Silence’s activation sound will change when the full game launches on October 28.
