In early September, specialist Austin Evans got acquainted with PlayStation 5 revision this year, which has a smaller motherboard (about five centimeters) and a cooler with a different shape and smaller size. Recently it turned out that the revision with the label CFI-1202 not only does it offer cooler operating temperatures and lighter weight, it equipped with a new processor, made using 6-nm technologyreports Angstronomics.

Chips in previous versions of the PS5 were made using TSMC N7 technology, while the N6 was made with EUV technology. approximately 18.8% higher transistor density. With this transition, the chip size has been reduced by 15% and Sony will be able to produce about 20% more chips for the same silicon wafer, which means significant reduction in production costs and the ability to produce more pieces. This could provide more consoles in the market. So the bonus is reduced power consumption and reduced amount of heat generated by the chip.

It should be added that apart from these parameters, nothing has changed in the chip specification. The new processor is just as powerful as its predecessor. there was no performance improvement.

It is estimated that by replacing the processor, smaller motherboard and smaller cooler, Sony will save about 12% on the production of each new console.

Both Microsoft and Xbox Series X/S are expected to use 6nm processors in the future.

Recall that Sony a month ago with immediate effect made it more expensive PlayStation 5 for a thousand crowns (50 euros). The new recommended retail price for Czech stores is 14,490 kroons with mechanics and 11,790 kroons without mechanics.
