Diligent gamers have been busy deciphering the hidden Diablo 2: Resurrected messages found in the fantasy game after a mysterious message appeared at the end of the Diablo 2: Resurrected 2.5 update message prompting an online search. The latest update to one of the best RPGs on PC has proven popular with new features like Terror Zones, though its new Sundered Charms are dividing fans.
The mystery began with an image included at the bottom of the 2.5 patch update, which Blizzard describes as a “garbled inscription” found in an old Diablo II manual. In the center of the painting is a journal with a handwritten message, along with some impressive gold coins, also spread out on the table on top of an old Diablo II manual.
After much research, a user on the game’s subreddit announced that a jumble of handwritten letters could be translated using the Vigenère cipher, a method developed in 1553 that was originally known as the “garbled cipher” for resisting all attempts to crack it. until 1863. Using the “Risen” decryption key (taken from one of the table’s rooms), a message was revealed: “So many precious stones, what do those orange numbers mean?”.
Users then noted that clicking the chat icon again in the online lobby would bring up an orange nine-digit numeric code – players established that these codes referred to certain words in the Diablo.II manual. The number includes the page number, the line number, the word number and its position in the final message; and working together, the community has already discovered more than 75% of the final message.
The full message is 666 words long (of course) and is itself a cryptic message, speaking of “a perfect broken gem,” “the remains of the stones that underlie all this destruction,” and “a thief left alone.” . sleep planning”, among other things. A fan on the Blizzard forums also points out tweet 2021 from Diablo and Diablo II, host David Brevik asks “Will there be a special cat gem code in Resurrected?” As such, the cipher appears to have been in the game for a while, but its true meaning is only now being revealed. Fans are divided on whether this is just a hidden lore or if it points to something new coming in Diablo 2: Risen: the gem stack increases as one of those very features.
