Village Vince Zampelli in the chair of the head of the brand Battleground was a clear sign that EA wanted to move on and focus primarily on the future of Call of Duty’s biggest competitor. Of course, Zampella reflects on the not-so-great Battlefield 2042, this time in an interview with Barron’s magazine (VGC transcript).
“I think they just moved away from what Battlefield is,” says the co-founder of Respawn and Infinity Ward of a not-so-successful game, “they tried to do some things, maybe too ambitious: increase the number of players. etc. I think they haven’t given enough time to what makes games interesting.”
“Really not a bad idea. The direction they took and the way they built the game just didn’t allow them to come up with the best possible solution,” he adds.
Zampella acquired the brand last December after the failure of Battlefield 2042, which we our review they rated below average. While the game is still under development, the brand’s strategy for the coming years is already taking shape.
“This is a completely new structure,” says Zampella, “we are bringing together several studios. We’re gathering the best talent and giving them time to create something amazing.” Ridgeline Games, the newly founded studio, will also help with the story.
