As early as next month, we’ll see the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, which includes Winter’s Expansion in addition to the base game. This add-on will offer a third-person mode for the main story, new mercenary content, and most importantly, the Shadows of Rose story DLC. An IGN editor was able to try out a roughly 30 minute demo and described the experience and new information in a new video that offers 7 minutes of new gameplay.
I must say that the entire video is enlarged and much is not visible, perhaps the developers simply did not want to reveal the appearance of all locations. In any case, despite this, we learned a few interesting things. As a reminder, the DLC takes place 16 years after the events of the main game. We take on the role of Ethan’s daughter Rose, who travels inside the being known as the Megamycete to rid herself of her superpowers that are making her life hell.
But along the way, someone helps her and gives her advice through text she finds in an environment set in the original game’s locations. In addition, an unknown assistant who calls himself Michael can also give her items such as a gun, which is strongly reminiscent of the mechanics from the Alan Wake game. Rose also gains special abilities. Later, for example, he can destroy flowers that create a kind of slime on the ground. But he also gets some sort of stasis from Dead Space, with which he can “freeze” enemies for a while.
They will be very unpleasant. At the very least, the type the developers have shown so far can suck out Rose’s brain and deal massive damage. In addition, it is said that we will also see some other “stalker” enemy, such as Mr. Kevin. X in RE2 or Lady Dimitrescu in the main story of RE8. However, we don’t know more yet.
Eurogamer also published their impressions. According to him, the expansion is much darker and creepier than the main game, and there should be less action.
Resident Evil Gold Edition launches October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. We should find out more information at the Resident Evil Showcase sometime in October.
