The Half-Life 2 Half-Life 2: VR mod launches on Steam today, bringing Oculus Quest 2 support for Valve’s iconic sci-fi FPS and giving us something to do while we wait, and wait, and wait, for news on the 3 -I’m part of the game “Half-Life”.
The free beta for Half-Life 2: VR will begin on September 16, allowing players to experience the sequel to Half-Life using any SteamVR-compatible headset, including the Oculus Quest 2, HTC Vive, and Valve. The index is pretty much everything you can find in the list of the best VR headsets. The fan-made design of Half-Life 2: VR features motion controls, manual reloading for all weapons, a new Half-Life: Alyx-inspired weapon selection circle, and all environments completely updated to allow for VR. While the initial release is a public beta, the Half-Life 2: VR team plans to add more features and possibly make Half-Life 2: Episode One and Episode Two VR compatible in the future.
“Become Gordon Freeman,” the team wrote, “lift your lever and immerse yourself in the world of Half-Life 2 like never before. He grabs and throws objects with his hands, physically climbs stairs and plays ball with Dog as if you were really there”, adding that you must have a copy of Half-Life 2 purchased on Steam to use the VR mod.
It’s not exactly Half-Life 3, but with Entropy: Zero 2, which was released as an unofficial sequel to Half-Life 2 earlier this month, and new mods that transform the sci-fi shooter into a horror game by Amnesia or Half-Life style. A stunning mirror maze that plays with your memories, Life 2: VR is proof that Gordon Freeman’s fan base is more alive than ever.
