The fate of the expected post-apocalyptic event STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl is uncertain due to the protracted war in Ukraine, and there is speculation of a new delay following a new report from Microsoft. The game is officially expected next year for PC and Xbox Series X/S (with Czech subtitles), but the end result could be different.

The concern fueled Microsoft. The company began to return money to players who pre-ordered Stalker 2. He cites the postponement of the game indefinitely as the reason. After that, pre-orders in the Xbox store were stopped.

If you just started to worry about Stalker 2, it’s understandable, given the circumstances of development at the Kyiv studio GSC Game World. Some of the creators moved to the Czech Republicwhere development should continue. In a recent video, you can see how the war affected the team and its work.

But I’m not the one who wants to scare you unnecessarily. Therefore, I think it is important to add that Microsoft has taken similar steps in the past for other games that didn’t have a set release date, or at least a period when they were supposed to come out.. This goes hand in hand with a statement from a GSC Game World spokesperson:

“We had to postpone the game to 2023, the exact release date has not yet been set. We made this announcement at Microsoft Extended at E3, along with a dev diary and introductory video. Microsoft refunds money for pre-orders of games without an exact release date. When we announce the exact release date at a later date, pre-orders on Xbox will resume. PC pre-orders (Steam, EGS, GOG) are not affected.”
