The battle for Call of Duty continues. While Microsoft has assured everyone that Call of Duty will continue to release on PlayStation for several years after Sony’s current marketing deal with Activision expires, Sony is afraid of losing the golden pig. That is, a series where each part is sold in tens of millions of units, and considerable commissions go to the treasury of Sony from sales, including microtransactions and additional packages.
Phil Spencer, chief executive of Xbox, promised similar features and content on PlayStation. He said the offer goes way beyond typical deals in the gaming industry. However, at Sony, they are still unhappy and criticize competitors.
Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, has revealed the length. Microsoft offered Sony this Call of Duty will remain on PlayStation for three more years after the current deal between Activision and Sony ends.. Ryan called the proposal inadequate in many ways, stating that it did not take into account the impact on PlayStation players.
“I didn’t mean to comment on what I understood to be a private business discussion, but I feel the need to clarify as Phil Spencer has made this public.” Ryan explained. “Microsoft has only offered to keep Call of Duty on the PlayStation for three years after the end of the current deal between Activision and Sony.“
“After nearly 20 years of Call of Duty on PlayStation, their offering was inadequate in many ways and did not consider the impact on our players. We want PlayStation players to continue to have access to the highest quality Call of Duty, and Microsoft’s proposal undermines that principle.” he added.
Apparently, the current Call of Duty deal between Sony and Activision is in effect. until 2024so we would get by with a three year extension until 2027. However, Sony wants guarantees that even after this period, PlayStation players will be able to play new parts of this shooter.
Microsoft Acquisition of Activision Blizzard for Record Deal $68.7 billion verified by regulatory authorities around the world. The UK Competition and Markets Authority closed the original investigation earlier this month. decided on a second phase with an in-depth investigation due to concerns that Activision Blizzard’s move to Microsoft could result in a significant curtailment of competition in game consoles, subscriptions and cloud gaming services.. Authorities fear the acquisition will hurt PlayStation sales.
Both companies must submit proposals to the authorities on solving these problems by today. If the bids received are insufficient, the acquisition will be submitted for further investigation.
A month ago, Sony claimed that Call of Duty cannot be replaced. Sony considers Call of Duty a blockbuster, a big brand that influences gamers when choosing a console.
“No other developer can devote so many resources and experience to game development. Even if they succeed, Call of Duty will be so ingrained that no competitor, no matter how significant, can overtake it.” says Sony.
