1789, the French Revolution broke out in Paris. But it doesn’t turn out the way history remembers, and instead of beheading the former monarch Louis XVI and establishing a “government of the people”, the revolution is bloody suppressed by steam robots.
We find ourselves in alternate reality steampunk paris and the monarch Louis XVI is not only the king of France, but also a genius who commands an army of robots who are ordered to kill anyone who tries to seize the French throne. You take on the role of Aegis, a robot who becomes the Queen’s bodyguard and sets out to change history and change the fate of France and its people.
Since its announcement, Steelrising has been one of the games that immediately grabbed my attention with its alternative setting. I’m probably even more disappointed that he couldn’t do it to the fullest. develop and use the potential of an alternative Paris of the 18th century. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves a bit, let’s summarize everything nicely step by step.
Steelrising is a game of pure souls, i.e. a third-person RPG that focuses primarily on fast-paced one-on-one combat and, in a sense, higher difficulty, though, as it turns out. While the Souls games are notable for their high difficulty, it is difficult to define in Steelrising. Mechanics such as collecting souls and then losing them upon death or finding bone fir trees, in this case vestals that we know from other soul games, are preserved. But the same about hard to say at all. Yes, you will die, but certainly not as often as we would like.
It’s true that I’ve already spent enough time playing Souls games, so I brought a lot of Steelrising experience with me, but dying sixteen times in almost 25 hours and not once wanting to smash the controller is truly a feat. for such a title. But I can say with confidence that Steelrising could be a great starter game for players who don’t like Souls games. But the more experienced can stay in the final disappointment from a minor challengewhich did not live up to their expectations.
But the gameplay itself is done almost perfect. Here you have several types of weapons, each of which behaves differently, mainly due to special moves. Since the Aegis does not have the ability to parry and block classic attacks, this mechanic can only be found in select weapons. So it’s up to you which fighting style you choose. There will be heavy weapons to choose from, as well as light daggers, or you can try out ranged pistols and alchemy weapons that will deal elemental damage.
One you won’t find so many weapons in Steelrisingbut thanks to a special attack, whether defensive or offensive, each weapon is unique in its own way and everyone has a chance to find the exact combination that suits his playstyle.
Another big topic is alchemical damage, i.e. elemental where we have fire, frost and electricity. Each damage is also suitable for other types of enemies, where each type of enemy appears in the world in basically four variants, i.e. the classic one, and then one of the three elemental ones just mentioned, or in the case of robots, rather powered by another type of energy. It’s too bad the game doesn’t actually force you to change weapons more substantially. And this despite the fact that certain types of enemies are more vulnerable to a certain type of attack, but even so, there is not much difference, so you need to attack each enemy separately to preparation and were forced to significantly change weapons. Yes, some enemies will be easier to set on fire or freeze than others, but that doesn’t change the gameplay.
At the same time, the enemy’s plan turned out to be successful. True, their types are nnot so good in the game and after you spend some time in the game, the variety of your enemies won’t change much. However, the few that do exist are well made and they are all different. Here you will find classic enemies, mini-bosses, and later titans. The classics include prototypes of various machines, kitchen working machines, as well as machines for mining, and later combat vehicles. Whatever enemy it is, their attacks are often readable, not particularly powerful, and they often lack machines. some aggressionso there will usually be enough time for your counterattacks.
Mini bosses are actually the same. These are absolutely classic cars, only a little more powerful. You can always recognize them very simply by the blue mist that surrounds them.
Then they are the biggest problem titans. There are seven in Steelrising. Each one is unique and their design was really well done and each one was fun to fight. But then again, unfortunately, none of them it didn’t present a problem with the classic Souls games and when you fight them, the game often forgives you a lot and does not punish you for every mistake, as in other similar games. I managed to kill almost all of them on the first try. After killing the first Titans, you will then additionally unlock special abilities that will not only help you in battle, but also allow you to reach previously inaccessible places.
