Overcooked meets Spirited Away in a hot spring management sim

Onsen Master is a hot spring management game based on a combination of Overcooked and Spirited Away. If you’ve ever seen Studio Ghibli’s brilliant animated film about a girl trapped in a mystical perfume-filled bath, you may have imagined what it would be like to run such an establishment. Onsen Master is a collaborative game from Waking Oni Games that hopes to fulfill those dreams by entrusting you with the task of managing various onsen and preventing the mischief of evil yokai.

Taking on the role of Master Onsen’s titular student Mu, you are tasked with managing an onsen (the Japanese name for hot springs and the facilities that surround them) located on the island of Izajima. You need to keep your customers happy with the right ingredients to ease their worries and make sure they get the right dips without getting distracted or causing trouble.

However, the customers are the least of your worries: a dark cloud hangs over the island, causing mischievous spirits called youkai to appear. These youkai will try to disrupt your activity, so you’ll need to deal with them before they can resume normal service. As you progress through the story and search for the onsen master, you’ll even come across boss fights, such as a giant skeleton yokai emerging from the water to wreak havoc on your establishment.

Onsen Master features a short story mode with visual novel elements that can be played solo or in two-player split-screen co-op (and also online via Steam Remote Play). Follow Mu’s journey as they try to find out what happened to his teacher and discover Izajima’s secret. You can also jump straight into one of the game’s six hot springs in arcade mode for a blast of fast-paced action, or take on your friends in competitive multiplayer where you must outwit other players to grab the attention of in-game patrons. . onsen
