A helpful player has shared a major FFXIV Island Sanctuary PSA to avoid wasting rare animal spawns on a Stardew Valley-like side activity for the critically acclaimed MMORPG. The addition of “one of the best farming games” to the Final Fantasy XIV rewards list came as a surprise when it arrived as part of the FFXIV 6.2 update, but players were eager to make the most of their island’s potential.
One of the most important parts of managing your island is collecting the various animals that can be found in the environment, and the hardest to get to are the rare animal spawns that can appear at certain times or under certain weather conditions. These special creatures include the Black Chocobo, the Rainbow Paradise Dodo, the whimsical owl-like Paissa, and the rather cute and fluffy Twinklefleece.
However, users looking to hunt these rare spawns should be aware of a particularly dangerous nuance that, if not careful, can lead to rare spawns being wasted. As Reddit user FlareHeart explains, when you have a full list of animals in your pasture, the game will prompt you to free one to make room for new creatures you capture. However, an animal that is being guarded or has material to collect cannot be released.
In the case of FlareHeart, before leaving for the weekend, they provided all of their current animals with caretakers and a good ration of high-quality food. However, they then realized that the elusive Beach Crab’s spawn window was about to open in just five minutes. Luckily Beachcomb showed up and they managed to catch him after burning a pretty amazing 20 nets. However, to their dismay, they couldn’t keep the little crab because all of its creatures were being watched and couldn’t be released. Unable to return to their pastures, their only recourse was sadly to let Beechcombe back into the water.
Several other thread users say they’ve encountered the same problem, and as a result, people say they’ve missed Goobbues and Twinklefleeces. Others express their gratitude to FlareHeart and say that they probably would have been in a similar situation without even knowing it. Square Enix may very well try to change this in the future, but for now the message is clear: don’t go looking for rare FFXIV Island Sanctuary spawns with a barn full of animals to keep an eye on. .
