New information will reach us gradually. We currently know a few important details about the combat system that confirm that the developers not only want to create a sequel to the 2018 game, but also improve its fundamentals and expand the experience a bit.

Kratos in God of War: Ragnarok has a completely new set of elemental abilities, namely new powers of ice and fire elements, between which you can switch by pressing the triangle (in the previous part, the Leviathan ax was called by pressing the button). The selected element enhances Krato’s ax or Blades of Chaos with so-called signature weapon moves. Frost Awaken freezes enemies while Whiplash burns them.

This is what the developers want. offer players a much greater variety of tools to play with enemies and strategies in combat. They compare it to playing with food, which is their internal philosophy.

“Kratos plays with his food. We tried to create systems that you want to do that are fun, very playful, with many different paths. And when we looked at the combat in the previous game, we thought we could go further, add new toys and ways to play with enemies and strategies.” Chief Combat Designer Mihir Sheth commented on the news for Game Informer.

Shields, which have unique properties and benefits, will also play a big role in God of War: Ragnarok. They were presented two new shields: Dauntless and Stonewall. The first one is aimed at an immediate reaction, so when parrying an attack at the last moment, it will turn red, signaling that we can deliver a “crushing blow” that will stun enemies. Instead, Stonewall absorbs attacks while retaining their kinetic energy, and when fully charged, the protagonist can slam the ground with it and send out a pulse that knocks enemies within range off balance.

There will be other new shields in the game, but we haven’t heard about them yet. At the same time, it is speculated whether we will see other main weapons that will enhance the gaming experience. Given today’s information, we wouldn’t be surprised.

God of War: Ragnarok will be released on September 11 this year on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The game will Czech subtitles.
