Therefore, management began a “review of strategic options” to ensure the greatest possible benefit for shareholders.

Not long ago there were rumors about a possible merger between Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Globalbut the negotiations apparently broke down. Attention now turns to other potential buyers, and to what will become of the media empire, which includes film studios, television channels and gaming divisions.

The WBD brand includes not only HBO, Discovery+ and DC Studiosbut also Warner Bros. Gamesthat is, the publisher of such publications as Mortal Kombat 1, Hogwarts Legacy, Lego games or very unsuccessful Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

Warner Bros. Games has already undergone restructuring this yearwhose goal was to focus on strong and recognized brands. However, if the entire company is sold, this strategy could backfire. The new owner could merge the studios, sell them piecemeal, or abandon less profitable teams altogether.

WB Games has closed three studios this year, including Monolith Productions, who worked on the canceled Wonder Woman game and was previously known for the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor/War series. The work of iPlayer First Games, the creators of Multiversus and the WB support team in San Diego has been completed. Additionally, the planned expansion of Hogwarts Legacy has also been cancelled.

Despite these losses, WB Games is still pursuing major projects. At Gamescom 2025, it was announced that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight from TT Games will be released in 2026. Avalanche Studios is working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, while Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new Batman game. However, players will have to wait a long time for both.

CEO David Zaslav said in a press release that the firm wants to “find the best way to fully capture the value of its portfolio.” However, he recalled that the original plan was to divide the company into two separate parts – Warner Bros. and Discovery Global. But this plan apparently turned into preparation for a total sale.

“We are registering interest from several organizations who see huge potential in our brands. We have therefore decided to conduct a thorough assessment of all options that will allow us to strengthen our position in the market and deliver maximum benefit to our shareholders.” – Zaslav said.
