Stephen Kick, CEO of Nightdive Studios, who is currently working on the System Shock remake, said: System Shock 3He explains that the fate of the game, and potentially the fate of the next parts of the series, is in its hands, whose traces have disappeared for two years. Tencent.
System Shock 3 was officially announced by OtherSide Entertainment in 2015. In 2020, the studio sold the rights to the sequel to Tencent, and since then the game has completely disappeared from the radar, a sign that the project has likely been cancelled, as suggested, among other things, by Warren Spector in an interview published in March.
According to the words of the Nightdive CEO, for now, only Tencent can decide whether to shoot the third episode.
“When we got the franchise rights, we licensed the rights for the third game to Warren Spector and Paul Neurath from Otherside. They then sold the rights to Tencent,” Kick said.
“So Tencent currently owns the rights to the third game, and we have the rights to remake the first game and potentially the second game. That’s pretty much the current situation.”
Kick also claims he doesn’t know if Spector or Neurath are involved in a similar project.
“I honestly don’t know. I know Paul and Warren are still making games, but that’s all I know right now.”
Kick says Tencent not only owns the rights to System Shock 3, but potentially fourth and fifth game.
“Technically I think they can do System Shock 4 and 5 as well, but they should release the third part first. We’ll see.”
Staying on topic, at the Gamescom 2022 Future Games Show, we saw the System Shock remake in action in a new gameplay trailer.
