A new screenshot of Haunted Chocolatier, a game about the life of Stardew developer Eric Barone, surfaced on Twitter thanks to the developer himself, and it looks a bit weirder than expected. In the best case. Last seen, Barone shared an image of the update’s progress that highlighted subtle changes to Haunted Chocolatier’s approach to graphics and environmental design, such as tweaks to zippers, details, and even the way it displays clothing. This time, a giant bee rules over a honeycomb hell with spikes and other traps.
See for yourself.
Barone previously said Haunted Chocolatier would be more combat-focused than Stardew Valley, but we thought that meant things like slimes and other monsters. Of course, we still didn’t expect to print “fights against a giant bee in a honey mine”, although maybe in a game where you work with ghosts to sell chocolate, that’s up to us.
As amazing as it is, it’s also a promising and refreshing change.
Stardew Valley is a great farming game, but aside from more customization potential, it also does very little to expand our expectations for the genre. Haunted Chocolatier is all about simulation and life management, according to Barone, but it seems pretty obvious that it will lean a lot more towards fantasy than your average life sim.
The Bee Boss also has the proper soundtrack. He listens below.

There’s no release date yet for Haunted Chocolatier, but while you’re waiting for a treat, check out some of the best Stardew Valley mods to freshen up a modern classic. There are plenty of other games like Animal Crossing for PC to keep you busy in the meantime.
