Red Matter 2 is a new must for VR owners – INDIAN

So it looks like it’s time for VR headset owners to pay attention to this again. If you remember the sci-fi adventure Red Matter, which is about four years old, you’re probably looking forward to the sequel that was announced and reviewed just a few months ago. And if so, I can safely say that the wait was worth it. However, you will receive a slightly different product in your hands than you might expect at first glance.

To sum it up very simply – Red Matter 2 a mysterious sci-fi adventure with a touch of cold war atmosphere and very light horror. This is what applies to the first volume, immediately followed by the second. And while you don’t need to have played the previous game to understand the events, we definitely recommend it. At least for the reason that both games differ from each other in some rather unexpected aspects.

But let’s start with the story, which of course will accompany you throughout the game. As spaceman Sasha, you’re on a mission to rescue your old colleague you thought was dead with the help of Beta’s mysterious companion, with whom you’ll only have voice contact. And while I admit the premise itself isn’t very exciting, Red Matter 2 will keep you especially storytelling style and suspenseful atmosphere. Unlike the first part, in the second part you feel much more that you are a direct part of the story, and not just an ordinary pawn. Which, for those of you who played the first part, yes, is a completely intentional insinuation. In any case, Beta slowly interacts with you at every opportunity, and the main character talks, which is somewhat unusual for such games. But here it totally works, and in many ways makes the world around you brighter as the characters – and in fact you yourself – remember it as you play.

And that they do really well. Although some of the secondary characters have rather average dubbing, probably caused by the emphasis on such a stereotypical Russian accent, the two main characters, you and Beta, seem good, believable and realistic. And even if their character isn’t exactly god knows how extensive it is in the finale, they very effectively move the story forward in a pleasant way.

In any case, as I said, the game tells the whole story well. Of course, I will not give anything away, but not only the rescue of an old colleague in an abandoned space station will move you forward. And while the story itself isn’t the best I’ve ever seen, especially in the field of VR games, the developers are doing a very decent job of conveying information and creating atmosphere in a very natural and meaningful way.

As usual with VR games, for most people the most important aspect will probably be the gameplay. And, fortunately, Red Matter 2 is not far behind here either. The second part, of course, builds on the first, and most of its mechanics and core controls return. Of course this means in case of movement, the possibility of teleportation and smooth movement. You will still manipulate the world around you with two controllers that can perform multiple tasks. On both your left and right hand you will have grips with which you can take most of the objects around you, examine them or manipulate them. On the non-dominant hand of your choice, you will have a de facto small display, which allows you to analyze almost everything around you. Whether it’s text on papers that he translates for you, or various insignia, machines, materials, and anything else he can give you context for. This is a beautiful aspect that makes the space around you feel even more experienced and real than it really is. Other tools include a flashlight with the ability to shoot flares, or a connector to connect to terminals to access some data or control something.
